Modern Doll Collectors Convention® 2010
2010 Fashion Doll Runway Ellowyne's Kaleidoscope
Entry Number #5: " Spinning Colors" by Sissy Lingle
BIOGRAPHY
A whole new world was opened for me in 1999 when I began collecting and sewing for dolls. Having loved playing with dolls and sewing
outfits for them as a child, I was delighted to learn that collecting them as an adult was a widely accepted hobby! My main enjoyment
comes from designing and sewing outfits for my large collection. Attending doll conventions and giving workshops are the icing on
the cake!
The Poem: Spinning Colors
In kaleidoscopic colors
The seasons flow quickly by,
But nothing seems to heal my heart
As the colors pierce my eyes.
Winter shadows on the snow...
Bright blue, and the snow is deep.
With Spring there comes awakening green
But my heart is still asleep.
Summer sunshine, yellow and hot
Cannot reach my heart so cold.
Autumn’s colors give pain to my head
So brilliantly orange and gold.
The kaleidoscope goes on and on
But my drapes are drawn up tight,
To hide the colors from my heart
And bring the darkness of the night.
The Outfit:
Elloywne's cotton velveteen cape, trimmed in rhinestones, represents her cloak of night, hiding the colors from her eyes. It also
represents the outside of a kaleidoscope. The circles of ruffles, trimmed in glass beads, form the rings of color inside the kaleidoscope.
The colors are the shades of the seasons in the poem. Sewn from polyester fabric, each ruffle is gathered onto a white cotton slip.
In back, the dress closes with a hook & eye, and snaps.
