As Judith Dorsman I spent many years as a Costume Designer in the Australian Film Industry. I designed for many Australian films including Picnic at Hanging Rock This film has since collected many awards and I was fortunate enough to receive a BAFTA nomination for Costume Design.
I have been designing for fashion dolls for about 6 years and thoroughly enjoying the challenge the difference in size offers. It has given me a chance to utilize the huge collection of vintage pieces that have accumulated from my years in both the fashion and costume industry. I owned a Costume Hire business for many years.
Participating in "Project Dollway" and achieving runner up status after producing the final 12 piece collection has been my most stressful but rewarding accomplishment so far. My journey is documented in my blog and my website, My Dolltopia. I am loving this new direction in life and have met some wonderful people.
Last year I had the honor of sitting as resident judge for the CDDC (Couture Doll Design Challenge) Competition. It is with much pleasure I continue my participation as a judge this year. I am constantly amazed at the talent of the designers and the quality of their work. It makes judging a very humbling experience.

Poem: Fragments

Beneath the shards of broken dreams,
Some sparkles still remain.
A kaleidoscope of color,
Fragments of her pain.

She spins her coat of many colors,
Her hopes and dreams laid bare.
She looks within herself.
Is Ellowyne still there?

Is there still a dream to follow?
Does she even dare?
Is her kaleidoscope just hollow?
….Does she really care?

Outfit: I wanted my "Kaleidoscope" journey with Ellowyne to embrace not only color but an abundance of textures. She carries with her a kaleidoscope in its own metallic net cocoon that pulls open to release it. The colored crystals drop as it is turned.
Her dress is made from a copper metallic printed fabric that has been tie dyed and crinkle pleated. The bodice has been trimmed with gathered tie dyed silk ribbon. There is a braid and bead trim under the bust and tiny cord bows with long tails hanging to her waist with beads completing the look. Teal frill net petticoat and gold sparkle organza frill attached to the dress finish the skirt with a tiny burgundy trim to complete the underskirt. The back is finished with tiny buttons.
The coat is a combination of many fabrics of different colors and textures forming a half circle when held out. The sleeves and hem have had shaggy wool threaded through the knit to add depth to the finish. The insides of the sleeve hems have been adorned with different floral trims with bead and rhinestone finishes. The hanging drops are vintage pieces that begged to be included :-)
Her high waist is completed with vintage matching braid and metal clasp.
She wears mittens to complement her stockings. Her lace-up boots have been decorated to match the outfit.
On her coat she wears a rhinestone brooch.
