Modern Doll Collectors Convention® 2008Abbreviated History of the Modern Doll ConventionThe Modern Doll, Inc., is a not-for-profit group of dedicated doll collectors whose main focus is on collecting modern or collectable dolls. In celebration of these dolls, the Board of Directors sponsors an annual convention. Originally organized as the Ginny Doll Club by Chairman Emeritus Jeanne Chateau Niswonger, the first convention was held in 1979. With the interests of attendees expanding to other dolls, the name was changed to the Modern Doll Convention in 1988. Finally, in 1998, the convention was incorporated as the Modern Doll Collectors Inc. Our 28th anniversary Convention was celebrated in 2006. We encourage the collection, study, research and enjoyment of modern and collectable dolls. By definition, modern dolls are those made within the last 25 years and collectable dolls are those made within the last 50 to 75 years. Through our Convention, we strive to showcase and promote manufactures and their lines and we work closely with them to provide high quality and desirable collectable souvenirs for convention attendees. In addition, we provide in-depth programs on a wide range of modern and collectable doll topics by well-known experts as well as imaginative, creative and challenging workshops by highly qualified instructors. Manufacturers and programs have included the Alexander Doll Company, Ashton-Drake Galleries, Effanbee, Tonner Doll Company, Susan Wakeen, Vogue Doll Company , Kathe Kruse, Kish & Company, Boneka, Nancy Ann Storybook, R John Wright, LeeAnn by Affordable Designs, Beverly Stoehr, Wendy Lawton, and many more. Workshops have ranged from making your own accessories to the care of your collection. Our "all-volunteer" Board of Directors works all year long to bring collectors an entertaining and educational convention. We welcome comments and suggestions from our attendees. |
